Target Audience: Sign Language Interpreters, Interpreter Educators, Mentors, ITP Students, HR Professionals and Deaf Professionals.

Workshop/Course Description: This self-paced asynchronous micro-learning activity introduces haptic signals as a component of DeafBlind communication. Participants will review material describing how structured touch cues are used to share environmental, visual, and emotional information in real time. The activity examines how haptics supplements tactile signing by providing information that would otherwise be visually perceived, including facial expressions, audience reactions, movement, and changes in the environment. Participants will consider how interpreters coordinate haptic feedback to support clarity, pacing, and participation during interactions and events. Learners will engage with the material through a knowledge-check question and reflective prompts applying haptic strategies to interpreting practice.

Educational Objectives (Measurable and Observable): Participants will be able to define haptic signals and describe their role in DeafBlind communication as a result of this micro-learning activity. Participants will be able to identify types of environmental and emotional information conveyed through haptics as a result of this micro-learning activity. Participants will be able to describe how interpreters coordinate haptic feedback to support clarity and participation as a result of this micro-learning activity.

Media/Materials: CEUs PDQ learning platform (web-based LMS) with embedded instructional video, reading reference, multiple-choice knowledge check, and structured reflection prompts.

Evaluation & Assessment: Participants will be required to complete the instructional materials, answer a multiple-choice knowledge check, and complete short-response reflection prompts demonstrating having read or viewed and applied the material.
